Guest Post: Bay to Breakers

I'm off to San Francisco to smother my friends with four months of missing them
and to kiss that city that i love so much.
Be prepared for a gazillion pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I'm sure I'll be instagramming like a madwoman.

Have a great weekend and enjoy Devon's recap of Bay to Breakers in San Francisco!
I always love to hear non-locals experiences of San Francisco "holidays".
...

Hey there! I'm Devon, visiting from The Mermaid Chronicles. I'm here to share a little about my trip to San Francisco for Bay to Breakers. Have you heard of it before? I honestly hadn't until some of my friends started claiming it was the best day of the year in San Francisco. Bold, I thought. The best day of the year? Birthdays are pretty cool. And 4th of July? I mean, it doesn't get much better than being out on a summer night, eating barbecued food while watching dynamite burst playfully above your head. So, naturally, I had to see what this was all about. My husband, Scott, couldn't go thanks to work on the weekend. Bummer. So I flew up by myself (something I was about to consider significant until I remembered Nicole all the way in Barcelona).

For those of you who don't know, Bay to Breakers is an "athletic" event where a little over 20,00 people register to run 12 kilometers from San Francisco Bay to the highway near Ocean Beach and around 75,000 "bandits" show up in costumes and party their way through the city, usually not crossing the finish line. I did not run the race. I like running, don't get me wrong, but the best day of the year my friends referred to had nothing to do with completing a 12K (thankfully, since I don't really like running that much). Overall, I give Bay to Breakers an 7 out of 10, with 10 being my wedding day. So, yeah, it was pretty sweet. Here are some pictures I took of the festivities and some of the other things I did while in the city.

sweet pictures Devon! I was going to say ... you ran a 12er in a swimming suit? It's a super cute suit, but still. I would have questioned you. :)

Ummm... I want to go to Bay to Breakers right now. I love getting crazy in the street where it is normally not socially acceptable to get crazy. San Francisco is one of my favorite cities of all times. That was the first city me and my husband traveled to as a couple waaaay back when we were itty biftty teenagers.

@Tiff thanks! No, no, I did not run one step that day. It's hard to believe anyone even could with the crazy crowds! My friends were laughing at me because I packed a swimsuit (something I was getting quite a lot of use out of in SD at the time) for San Francisco. At first, I saw their point. It was freezing all day and night Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday, the day of Bay to Breakers, it was hot and then I was the one laughing at them in their thick, stifling costumes!

I hopped over from Devon's blog, and this really is such a cute post! I especially love the photo of Dev in her bathing suit while others are draped in costumes! And for the same reason you're probably excited to have her today, she is a great writer.

This sounds so amazing! I would love to travel to San Francisco just to see this going down.

I've been to B2B twice! Once as a spectator and once as a runner. SO much fun! I love that the whole city turns out to dress up and party all day in the streets. Such a blast! It's a must-see thing for sure.

I'm here from Devon's blog! My old work partner raves about Bay to Breakers. He was part of the "drinkers" group as well! Sounds fun :)
